Jazz

With an emphasis on technique and systematic training, dancers are exposed to a multitude of styles and flavors of jazz dance movement. Jazz helps develop coordination, flexibility, strength, movement, rhythmic timing and isolations. Jazz dance is truly an American art form. Ballet technique classes are strongly recommended for students taking Jazz classes. Level 3 & 4 students are required to be enrolled and participate in a BDA ballet class in order to be enrolled in this class.

Jazz dance is an ever evos it requires dancers to be trained in both dance and acrobatic skills.

Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style. Jazz can be powerful and percussive or expressive and lyrical. Ever evolving, jazz dance is taught with the music of today together with the classical jazz of yesterday. Classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, rhythms and style performed to contemporary music.

All of our jazz classes stress correct technique in both aspects of this style. Class level is determined by the instructor, and is based on an individual assessment of the student. All students receive corrections during class to help them advance. Students advance to the next level based on the recommendation of the instructor.
